Valentine's Day: The Best Gift

Remember in grade school when you would pick out the most appropriate valentine in the multi-pack for each member in your class? Or the right color candy heart with the perfect sentiment? You’d save your favorites for your best friends. Or maybe even the person you were crushing on.

As you got older (speaking from the perspective of a woman and mother) chocolate, flowers, and a lovely dinner out rang the bell. A chance to dress up and have an adult conversation with your partner without sharing your food or the conversation with the littles.
As I’ve gotten older, I find I still appreciate the flowers and chocolate because, HELLO, chocolate! But now I enjoy eating Thai takeout and watching a Zags basketball game from the comfort of my own couch rather than a fancy dinner out. Chocolate’s the bonus! Can you tell I love chocolate?
I’m not sure if it’s because I’m wiser or just older, but I value spending time with my favorite people more than the many trappings of the holiday. We spent a delightful hour this year visiting with our youngest daughter and granddaughter over breakfast. It was a beautiful gift even if she “stole” all of my strawberries.
This Valentine’s Day, I’m going to build a fort under the dining room table, add pillows, and read books with my grandsons, so my older daughter can have a bit of quiet time to recover from the flu.
Happy Valentine's Day, dear readers and friends!
What are your plans? Do you have a favorite gift or memory from Valentine’s past? What's the favorite gift you've given someone?

My memories of Valentine's Day traveled with yours Stacy! I remember the parties, the dinners the gatherings, the big meals! Spending time with my Dan, my miracle is the best gift. I am so grateful to the Lord we can still celebrate together. Takeout and time at home is the best!!! And then the grandbaby fun sounds even better!!! I can't wait to do this with my grand girls! Have a blessed time dear friend!
