Strolling into the kitchen, I ask the age-old question, what should we have for dinner? Wait, I made a menu this week. Mentally congratulating myself for being organized, I reach for the can opener to use on the tomatoes. It reminds me of an article I read about how it is the dirtiest implement in an average kitchen. Turning to the sink, I wash the can opener.
Meanwhile, the water on the stove has been boiling for ten minutes. Grabbing the pasta, I add it to the pan. I glance outside and realize the hummingbird feeder is empty. I go out to grab the feeder, thinking I need to make more sugar water. Wait, I can’t reach the feeder without the step stool. I return to the house to grab it but get sidetracked and go to the pantry for sugar.
The near-empty sugar container made me contemplate my last trip to the grocery store. Wait, did I buy sugar? Did I even add it to my grocery list? And, if I bought it, where is it? My head buried in the pantry; I register my ringing phone. Finding the phone under the dish towel, I answered with a distracted hello.
It’s my daughter with a request. Can I watch the kids on Thursday at two? I wonder, am I busy on Thursday? Do I have something scheduled? I open the calendar app on my phone. An odd smell permeates the kitchen. Wait, I realize the pasta is boiling over. As I drop the phone, my toe connects with the step stool, nearly launching me on my face. Muttering a word, I know I shouldn't use, I wonder, did I break my toe?
Look, a squirrel!
I have had those kind of days! And they seem to come more frequently the older I get, lol! One task can't be completed until something else is done, and then another, and another... you wrote about this life struggle VERY well Stacy!!!!!! Made me chuckle!!! That is a handsome squirrel! And hopefully the pasta survived {smiles} Blessings and hugs!
I can totally relate! And the fact my husband calls my distracted moments my “squirrel” moments, I may have written the book on it. 😳😆🙄
